Postpartum Doula

What is a Postpartum Doula

A Postpartum Doula comes to spend time at your home. They provide evidenced-based information on things such as basic infant care, feeding and sleep support, and bonding. They support your emotional and physical recovery from birth.

They are there to support YOU and your whole family in ways that allow for things like protected sleep and healing from your birthing journey, making sure everyone is getting adequate mental and physical rest, nurture and nourishment.

Who needs a Postpartum Doula?

The short answer is… everyone. Every family needs support, nurture and nourishment bestowed upon them in the immediate postpartum period, and in our fast-paced, transient world so many new families are far away from those supports and people that would traditionally be there for them during this time.

Whether you need to hire a doula will depend on what your available net of support looks like. Having a postpartum plan is a great place to start. Spending some time thinking about all your needs and who will attend to them will help you decide whether prioritizing resources to a hired doula might provide more positive and supported postpartum period.
